FAQ

Learn more about your charter

Is there a deposit required?

A 20% deposit is required on charters. This deposit is to book the boat for the day, and payment options can be discussed during booking.

What should I bring?

All gear, bait, and ice will be on board, waiting for your arrival. All you need is your own food, drinks, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, camera, soft-soled shoes, etc. Please keep the number of coolers down to one. We encourage you to bring your camera to preserve the memories. However, if you bring electronics like phones or cameras, please be aware that a boat can be a harsh environment for these items, so keep them stored while not in use. We are not responsible for loss or damage to personal items. Check the weather and dress layered accordingly. Remember that it is easier to remove items if you wear too much than borrow from someone else if you get wet or cold.

Will a fishing license be required?

Speak with the Captain about what License you will need.  They can be purchased online.

Should I tip the Mate?

The Mate is the hardest working person on any charter, and he is the key ingredient in your fishing success. It is traditional in North Carolina to tip your Mate between 15% and 20% of the charter rate.

What if the weather is bad or the charter is canceled?

The captain has the sole authority to cancel a trip. It is required that you show up for your scheduled charter unless you have heard differently from the captain. Often the weather offshore can be entirely different than the weather on land. If the captain feels it is necessary to cancel the trip for safety reasons, we will return your deposit or reschedule your trip. By not showing up for a reservation, you are forfeiting your deposit.

Can I keep my catch?

Yes, all fish caught within the fishing regulations become the property of the charter. However, we release billfish and certain regulated species to protect the species. Most fish that can be legally kept have a size and/or number limit. The captain is responsible for watching that customers stay within regulations.

Can I have alcohol on my charter(Beer)?

If you choose to drink alcohol, please be responsible. Do not bring any sort of beverage in glass containers. For the safety of everyone on board, the captain reserves the right to terminate a charter and return to the dock if a passenger becomes disorderly.

What can I do about seasickness?

We recommend if you’re worried about getting seasick, start taking the seasickness medication the day before, before you go to bed. Also, don’t exceed the medication’s label recommendation. Doing this allows you to get a good night’s rest. Then, in the morning, you can take half a dose or what you feel is necessary. If you wait until the morning to take the recommended dosage, you’re likely to sleep or be drowsy all day. Some folks also succeed with the motion sickness patches and wrist bands. These can be found at your local pharmacy!
